Job Description:
  • Provides evidence-based nursing care utilizing the nursing process, principles, practices and techniques of general nursing care as determined by Standards of Practice under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
  • Screens for sick call, administers medications, and provides first aid and basic life support to patients and employees as needed.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with security and treatment staff while providing input and feedback to assist the facility provider in organizing a treatment plan.
  • Records all pertinent information into the medical record.
  • Interfaces with other departments as needed.
  • Promotes continued competence through education/certification with a focus on correctional nursing.
  • Nurses must have the ability to work hours, days and locations as assigned along with being capable and available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Virginia LPN license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license (if you are a recent graduate of a nursing program in VA and not licensed, the NCLEX-PN exam must be scheduled at the time of application).
  • Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals.
  • Experience in carrying out provider orders in applying treatments.
  • Maintaining appropriate documentation Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or client (ARC) is required upon hire.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions 6 months contract.
Pay rate: 
$26-$32.40 depending on experience/40 hrs. a week
