Position Overview:
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) seeks contingent staff to support Full-Time Employee Equivalent (FTEE) clinical staff at the Atlanta VA Health Care System (AVAHCS) Nursing/Patient Care Services Department. This role requires providing specialized nursing care in the Operating Room (OR) and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), ensuring the highest quality of care for surgical patients.
Job Title: RN - Operating Room
Pay Rate: $58.00 - $60.00 per hour
Services Required:
- Provide holistic care to patients requiring surgical interventions.
- Work closely with surgeons and anesthesia care providers.
- Function both dependently and independently under the guidance of the Nurse Manager/designee.
- Work in the OR and PACU, with duty hours from 0700 – 1700 and 0700 – 2100, respectively.
- Be prepared to work beyond normal duty hours as needed.
- Must have at least three (3) years of current OR experience and be capable of scrubbing and circulating.
- Nurses should have worked in an OR setting within the last six months.
Qualifications:
- Active, current license as a professional nurse in any U.S. state.
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accredited by the American Heart Association.
- Current Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS) certification accredited by the American Heart Association.
- Graduate of a state-approved and accredited school of professional nursing (ACEN or CCNE).
- Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing; an Associate’s Degree or diploma is acceptable with valid licensure and current experience.
- Current Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification accredited by the Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI) is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Perform patient care, including examination, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of medical illnesses.
- Serve as a medical consultant to the attending psychiatrist/practitioner.
- Complete admission medical assessments and enter admission orders.
- Order diagnostic/therapeutic tests and procedures.
- Monitor patient progress, including lab values and special procedures.
- Consult with authorized representatives/legal guardians on patient medical status.
- Collaborate with psychiatric practitioners to provide DSM-5 diagnoses.
- Ensure timely and quality documentation in patient records.
- Maintain aseptic techniques, prevent infection, and use safety protective devices.
- Operate mechanical equipment in the OR and perform scrub nurse duties.
Working Conditions:
- Nurses assigned to the OR/PACU units can expect to work 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
- Potentially work with COVID-19 positive patients and Patients Under Investigation (PUIs).
